- In the introduction, you need to explain why this experiment is important. Think about the battery example in your packet. This experiment and research would be important because people want to spend the least amount of money while having their batteries run the longest time possible, right?
- All of your research is included in this section (make sure you cite all three resources within the paragraphs of the introduction). Research the main ideas of your project, and give some information about each. Think about the battery example in your packet. You may want to look up information about Duracell, Rayovac, and Energizer batteries and see how long the manufacturer says each should last. Then, you may want to see if there are any customer reviews about these batteries.
- See if anyone has conducted the same experiment, and then state their results and conclusions. You will compare their results to yours at the end of the experiment.
- Explain, very briefly, how you plan to conduct your experiment (materials and procedure). You will write these step-by-step in the materials and methods section later, and that section must be written so well that someone else can repeat your experiment EXACTLY like you did it. However, in the introduction, just give the basic steps of your experiment.
- The last paragraph of the introduction includes your hypothesis. The beginning of this paragraph summarizes what you believe will happen in your experiment and why you believe it will happen. Usually, the hypothesis is the last sentence of this paragraph.
- Type the introduction onto the page you have already saved (when you did your title page). You will start typing the introduction on page 3 where it says "Type your introduction here." :)
- Make sure to retype your title in the header above the introduction and at the top of page 3.
- Give a list of your three resources to your science teacher. You may print the URL's (web address).
Be sure to look at the rubric for this section! The rubric says you must do four things in this section:
Explain why you chose the project/experiment.
Include research information (at least 3 sources)
Explain how you plan to conduct the experiment.
State your hypothesis in the last paragraph.
